Sit quietly in your favorite place in nature, away from everyone and everything. Close your eyes. Take in a deep breath. As deep as it will go. Fill those lungs full of the air. Then release it. Do this three times. Keep your eyes closed. Listen for the sounds around you. The birds singing, the night creatures in song, the water rushing against the shore, the leaves of the trees clapping together, a bumble bee passing by. What ever you hear around you listen. Is the wind blowing? Is there a stream close by? Fill your ears with the sound of nature. Just be still. Allow God to enter in. Allow His voice to be heard within your inner soul. Can you hear Him? Not yet? Keep listening. Keep filling your lungs with air. Breathe in deep and release. Concentrate on the beating of your heart. Feel the pulse, hear the rhythm of the thumping. Look for the Face of God as you listen for His voice.
Just be still. Wait. How? How can you hear the voice of God? How can you be still enough to know that God is talking to you?
“Be still, and know that I AM God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10.
How can you be still and know that God IS? Be in His nature. Be in His Word. Focus on His messages He has for us in His Word. Look at what He created. The grass, the trees, the birds, the flowers, the running waters, the blue sky, the sun, moon, and stars, the animals the insects. Everything that you see around you God created. Every Word that you read in His Book, God wrote. Even though He used men to work the pens, He wrote for our instructions, our blessings.
Now open your eyes, look around you. Wherever you are, look at what God has made. Can you see His handy work? Is the sun setting? Is the moon full? Are the stars bright? Is it high noon? Match what you see with what you heard while concentrating on the sounds. Did you hear cattle calling? The trotting of a horse? Are there farm animals around? Was there a tractor in the distance cutting the land for hay? Are the crows calling back and forth? The peace and serenity of nature is where you can find God. And when you are still, and allow nature to soothe your senses, You will be able to hear God speaking to you.
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” Matthew 11:28-29, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Brush off all of the stress from your day. Keep listening to the creations of God; The soft wind blowing about you, the sound of the leaves in the wind. The running water from the creek rushing over the rocks as it passes you; The echo of the hawk as he flies by; The crickets and the frogs as they sing at night; Breathe in and out the fresh air that God breathes around you; Listen to the cattle as they call; hear the birds as they praise the Lord; listen to the rain as it hits the ground, is it a strong rain or a soft rain; allow thunder to bring you into its melody. Can you smell the sweetness of the flowers? Is the rain fresh and inviting to your senses? Is there fresh cut grass close by? Allow the stress to exit your mind and body.
“I AM the LORD thy God, which hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.” “Fear thou not; for I AM with thee: be not dismayed; for I AM thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My Righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10, Deuteronomy 31:8.
Lean back against a big tree. Lay in the grass, take your shoes off and connect to the earth. Walk in the rain and let the mud sink between your toes; walk on the salt filled ocean sand; let the dew of the morning invigorate the soles of your feet; allow the cool stream of water run over your feet; Pic a flower and inhale its fragrant smell feeling the softness of the peddle against your skin; Guide a blade of grass across your face; Let the cold air of the winter morning grace your senses and revive your being.
“For I AM the Lord who heals you…” “ I AM gracious…” “The LORD. The LORD God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth.” Exodus 15:26, Exodus 22:27, Exodus 34:6.
Allow the sun to give its heat upon your face, let the fresh air replenish the oxygen in your blood; look upon the sunset, look upon the sunrise, know that the Lord has woken you up this day, and will allow you rest in the night. Let God speak.
“I AM who I AM…” “I AM the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to anyone else…” “I, yes I AM the Lord, and there is no other Saviour…” From eternity to eternity I AM God.” Exodus 3:14, Isaiah 41:10, Isaiah 42:8, Isaiah 43:11,13
Just be still; and know.
